The Head of Government, Jorge Macri, has convened extraordinary sessions of the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires, including a project to suspend the Primaries, Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory Elections (PASO). This measure was announced by the spokesperson for the city, Laura Alonso, through an official statement.
According to the presented argument, it is emphasized that the primary elections have had a significant impact on the election of executive positions over the years. Additionally, it is noted that holding the PASO represents a significant cost for the City, estimated at around $20 billion for the elections of 2025.
The proposal to suspend the PASO will require a special majority of 40 votes, which forces the PRO to negotiate with the Peronist and libertarian blocs to achieve its approval. The general election, in which 30 legislators and community members will be appointed, is scheduled for July 6.
The extraordinary sessions, which will take place from January 28 to February 28, will address issues such as the suspension of the PASO for local legislative positions in 2025, the progressive bonus for small taxpayers on Gross Income tax, the regularization of tax debts, and the reduction to zero of stamp tax rates, among other matters.
Through a decree published in the Official Bulletin of the City, Head of Government Jorge Macri reaffirmed the importance of suspending the PASO, seeking to ensure stability and safeguard the finances of Buenos Aires against potential future challenges.
